Why Morning Routines Matter for Chiropractic and Wellness Patients
Hi there 👋,

Ever wake up feeling like you’re already behind? Maybe your joints feel a bit stiff, or that "brain fog" just won’t lift until your second cup of coffee.
Often, that sluggish feeling isn’t just lack of sleep—it’s your nervous system stuck in a state of low-grade inflammation. We see it every day here at the office: the physical toll that a high-stress, "always-on" lifestyle takes on the spine and the spirit.
The good news? You can hit the "reset" button before you even leave the house. Here is our favorite Inflammation Morning Routine to help you start your day with a calm mind and a mobile body.
1. The "Internal Rinse" (Hydrate Before Caffeine)
Before you reach for the coffee, reach for 16 ounces of room-temperature water with a pinch of high-quality sea salt and a squeeze of lemon.
Why it works: Your nervous system runs on electricity, and electrolytes (like those in sea salt) are the conductors. This "rinse" rehydrates your discs and flushes out metabolic waste that accumulates overnight.
2. The "Nervous System Shake-Off"
Spend two minutes moving your spine in all directions. A simple "Cat-Cow" stretch or a few slow neck circles can do wonders.
Why it works: Movement is medicine for your joints. By gently moving the spine, you’re sending a signal to your brain that the "threat" of sleep-stiffness is over, lowering cortisol and waking up your proprioception (your body’s sense of where it is in space).
3. Seek the Light (Early!)
Try to get 5–10 minutes of natural sunlight in your eyes within the first hour of waking up. Even on a cloudy Michigan morning, the natural light spectrum is powerful.
Why it works: Sunlight triggers the release of serotonin and sets your circadian clock. This doesn't just help you wake up; it regulates your anti-inflammatory hormones for the entire day.
A Note From Our Team: As we continue to grow into a more holistic wellness center here in Oak Park, our goal is to give you tools that work with the care you receive in our office. Whether you’re coming in for an adjustment, a massage, or a session with our medical team
, these small habits help your body "hold" those benefits longer.
