What Spinal Decompression on the DRX9000 Actually Does
If you have ever wondered what spinal decompression actually does to your spine, you are not alone. It is one of the first questions patients at Chiropractic Works ask after they see the DRX9000 table, and the answer is simpler than most people expect.
Maybe a doctor mentioned spinal decompression, or you saw the table in our office and wondered what it does. The idea is simpler than it sounds.
The DRX9000 is a computer-controlled table that gently stretches your spine. That stretch eases pressure off a compressed disc. When the pressure drops, the disc has more room to draw in the fluid and oxygen your body uses to heal, and a nerve that was being crowded gets some relief.
It is FDA-cleared to help with disc-related pain, including herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease. It is not surgery, and it does not involve medication.
What a session looks like. You stay fully clothed. A soft harness supports you on the table, and the machine does the work while you lie there. Most sessions run about 20 to 30 minutes. The stretch stays gentle and gradual, never a sudden pull, because the table is computer-controlled for precision. Plenty of patients find it relaxing enough to close their eyes, and some fall asleep.
Decompression usually works as a series of sessions over several weeks, not a single visit. Real recovery tends to take time, and your plan gets built around your body rather than a fixed template. The number of sessions depends on your specific diagnosis and how your body responds, which is why the exam always comes first.
A fair question is whether it will work for you, and the honest answer is that it depends. Results differ from person to person, and some conditions make decompression the wrong fit. So we examine and screen every patient before starting. If it is not right for you, we would rather say so and point you toward better care.
